Identity for Knowhowtodesign

Knowhowtodesign is a free, independent educational resource for graphic designers. Every week, materials of varying difficulty levels are published, including podcasts, video tutorials, text tips, notes, and insights. Every month, a digest of useful design resources is released, along with streams, lectures, and interviews.

The platform needed a universal identity capable of uniting different spaces with a common visual language.

The identity reflects a personal perspective on graphic design methods—through the lens of individual experience. The name refracts through rays of knowledge, forming a unique symbol each time.

Despite its diversity, the symbol remains recognizable thanks to a graphic technique that mimics refraction and color dispersion.

When needed, the symbol serves as a background for icons and other graphics.

Aesthetic

References to the Dutch artist Hieronymus Bosch illustrate the author’s connection to the Netherlands, hint at the complexity and unpredictability of the artistic journey, and enhance the depth of metaphorical exploration.

Typefaces

A custom font, DoubleDutch, was created specifically for Knowhowtodesign. This distinctive Dutch grotesque is perfect for headlines and decorative text. Its sleek proportions make it a standalone design element while also pairing well with other typefaces.

The complementary font chosen is Voltaire. This elegant handwritten font adds dynamism and brings a pleasant medieval aesthetic, complementing the illustrations inspired by the Dutch artist Hieronymus Bosch.

Light leaks

Colored light highlights are used to add variety to covers and banners.

Layout

Layout templates allow for quickly assembling graphics in popular formats or preparing entire sets in just a few minutes.
